Every now and then we are confronted with various negative information connected with situation of LGBT people in Russia. Although the digital revolution gave some opportunities to create communities in the virtual sphere, the Russian example shows that new media can be considered only as a tool, not as a genuine solution to the problem. This text is evidence of the fact that media are still strongly conditioned by external issues (particularly by political factors). The use of new media can, in the long run, have consequences for the activism of minority groups in Russia. Currently their most important aspects are to inform, educate and attempt to elicit a response from the public as a whole.
