TOBY MILLER: THE CHILDREN OF REAGAN’S HIPPIES

“The Global North recognized fifty years ago that its economic future lay in the finance capital and ideology, rather than agriculture and manufacturing” – claims Toby Miller. In this article the author attempts to explain the emergence of the cognitariat in the history of Cold-War futurism, technophilia and the new right of the republican party and detail the risks of cybertarianism in ecological and labor terms. He argues that this could be considered the background for the emergence of the Occupy movement.
